So, I’ve been a bit lazy this past few weeks…

But believe me, I’ve had my reasons! (A bereavement in the family being the main one).

Anyways, onwards we go….

So, the team has been a bit ‘Jeckyll & Hyde’ this past few weeks, taking 2 massive losses in MK/Coventry, but maintaining home form to keep ourselves right in the mix for the title. Currently sitting atop the table, with game sin hand, things are looking mighty good at the moment. Best shut up before I jinx it.

So, Sundays game against Slough. I can honestly say that it was quite possibly the least satisfying 7-2 win I have watched. As is typical for us only having the 1 game over the weekend, we looked a little out of sorts during the game. Slough are clearly still trying to find a balance in the squad after its recent troubles, and it showed. Almost no defensive organisation allowed a clearly not even in 3rd gear Phoenix to rack em up on the scoreboard, including 5 (!) for Michal Psurny (although 2 of those were ‘own goals’). On the looks of their performance, its going to be a long run in to the play-offs for the Jets and their fans. Interestingly, in an interview with Phoenix TV which you can watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUZBvmNFYzo , Sloughs head coach claims that they will be in the EPL next season despite rumours to the contrary. We shall see on that one…

Other gubbins: Telford continue to metamorphose by announcing they are signing deals with foreign clubs to aid player development. This could be very interesting indeed, but obviously we will have to see how it all pans out. As it stands, Telford are on the brink of becoming the power-club of the EPL. Part of me wonders if the other EPL clubs will try to bring in regulations during the close season to limit Wayne Scholes spending power, and its effects on themselves. Perhaps it is finally time for the EPL to introduce a ‘wage cap’, but that is a discussion for another time.

And apparently we have sold our entire allocation for the Play Off Finals once more. IIRC, this means that around 500(ish) Phoenix fans will be descending upon Coventry once more, to drink, chant, indulge in banter… oh, and watch some hockey of course. Some fans over on THF seem to be miffed that we have so many tickets whilst their club has far fewer (Telford fans mostly), deeming it ‘unfair’. Yes, it’s totally ‘unfair’ that the teams wit the biggest crowds get more tickets. Clearly everyone should get the same amount, irrespective of how many they actually need. (Thats sarcasm, BTW, just for those who don’t get it.) Frankly, it’s tough shit if people don’t get tickets because they wait to see if their team makes it to Coventry, and the EIHA know exactly where the money is to be made (Us, Guildford, Basingstoke, and MK), and where it isn’t (Sheffield and Telford).

And that’s your lot for now, peeps.
