I’m disappointed

No, I really am.

This morning, someone posted on the Official Forum that there was a Groupon offer for the CC cup final, whereby tickets were £7. They wanted to know if, as a Season Ticket holder, they could take advantage of this. They also seemed upset that newbies would get a better deal than existing fans. Then another poster come son and accuse the club of “milking” Season Ticket holders.

Now, I’m going to do my best to stay calm here, but really people?

The Groupon deals (and after checking the Groupon site, I can’t find this deal anywhere although it shows on the mobile version) we offer are designed to bring in new fans. People who have never seen ice hockey before. And to incentivise this, we offer them a very large discount. Any Groupon tickets sold are considered to be EXTRA revenue for the club. if we were to offer these prices to our existing fans, then the club would end up losing revenue, as any extra newbies wouldn’t bring in enough extra cash to bring the gate money up to “normal” levels. I mean, do people really want the club to lose money so they can save themselves the cost of a couple of coffees at Starbucks?

Lets make this crystal clear: NO ONE is being “milked”. Tickets for the CC cup final are available at the regular ST holder discount price. Hell, if the club wanted to “milk” ST holders (who already pay LESS per game than those who pay on the door or buy each week in advance), then there would not be any discount offered. That would add a pretty useful amount of extra cash to the club coffers over the course of a season.

And I personally find it disappointing that some fans feel that the club “owes” them something. It doesn’t.
