Jets grounded

Bloody hell, Did I not expect that!

Having already won 2 of our 3 prior home games after scoring double digits, and having been held to a 3-2 scorline a couple of weeks prior by the Jets, I was expecting another ‘normal’ scoring game. Well, I suppose that of late 10+ gaols at home has become ‘normal’!

The Jets were simply destroyed. Despite the efforts of the now gassed Mr Watt (a gassing which has seemingly raised the ire of not just the Jets fanbase, but the rest of their playing squad also), the Jets just could not contain the rampant Phoenix forwards. As with the previous weekends game against the Phantoms, the Phoenix forward lines looked to be totally in control of the game, playing the puck as if there were magnets attached to each stick, and moving with a grace and ease that almost made you forget that there was another team on the ice. Hell, we almost scored a goal on a breakaway whilst defending a 5-on-3 powerplay, such was the confidence coming from the Phoenix players. Seriously, we were that damn good it was almost scary. Even if we only play half as well on a regular basis, then every other team is the league will have to work double time just to keep up.

And this coming weekend is the first real test. A double header both on the road and at home with the Guildford Flames. Although not quite as free scoring as the Phoenix are currently, the Flames are still a dangerous team, although their defensive lines look decidedly weaker than ours at the minute, shipping substantially more goals than we are. If I’m being honest about it, I’d be more than happy with splitting the honours this weekend, and I’m certainly not expecting another ‘blow out’ home victory. Which isn’t to say I’m not expecting goals. With our forwards rampant, and the Flames featuring Huppe, Longstaff, Kristoffersson, and Duggan, the potential for 10 or so goals in each game is certainly higher than normal. I’m predicting a win for Guildford in their barn on Saturday, followed by a win for us at the Dome on Sunday.

And I was directed to this picture on instagram this week: http://instagram.com/p/e2uA_lmi8Y/ Now that made me laugh! There was also a twitter rant from the same user, who seemed to think we were taking the proverbial piss by soundly beating the Phantoms (the username is @Emmziiii if you want to check it out… scroll through the timeline to the 29th of September. It’s hilarious).

See y’all on Sunday!
